Unlucky Thirteen?
The Hebrew word for the number 13 signifies the hand or outworking of pride. The gematria of this number speaks of rebellion. It is interesting to see how many times the thirteenth chapter or verse in the Bible is about something rebellious or negative.
Many call this an unlucky number and have concern about Friday the thirteenth being an unlucky day. According to the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute in Asheville, North Carolina, an estimated 17 to 21 million people in the United States are affected by a fear of this day, making it the most feared day and date in history. Some people are so paralyzed by fear that they avoid their normal routines in doing business, taking flights or even getting out of bed. "It's been estimated that [US]$800 or $900 million is lost in business on this day".
Such superstition comes from ignorance, irrational fear and trust in magic or chance.
Such an attitude can only come from some spiritual influence rooted in fear and unbelief.
Personally, I grew up around all kinds of superstitions about walking under ladders, spilling the salt, breaking mirrors and coaches wearing special socks and ties for good luck to win ballgames.
Such paranoia brings worry and senseless dread. It is evidence of lack of trust and faith in the promises of God in His Word. Jesus set me free from such foolish and vain controls in my life.
He will do the same for you.
