• Deliverance is First and Foremost for Christians

    Stephen Bell

The following is an addendum to my booklet "Why Cast Out Demons?"

A common response from many Christians is, “I don’t believe a Christian can have a demon.” This is followed with the statement, “A demon can’t be in the same place as the Holy Spirit.” Everyone who believes such did not receive their understanding from the Scriptures. They are just repeating what they have heard someone else say—usually a minister.

There is no Scriptural evidence anywhere in the Bible to support the theory that a Christian can’t have a demon; on the other hand, there are numerous passages confirming the reality of Christian demonization.

In two particular instances, the Apostle Paul was concerned that believers he had previously ministered to had been infested with unclean spirits. He was fearful that the brethren in Corinth had received another spirit other than the Holy Spirit when he wrote, “For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or different gospel which you have not accepted, you may well put up with it.” (II Corinthians 11:4) He also rebuked the believers in Galatia saying, “Oh, foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you?” (Galatians 3:1) You have to receive a demon to be bewitched and the only different spirit, other than the Holy Spirit, is a demon spirit.

If a demon or demons can’t be where the Holy Spirit is, how could Satan himself come among the sons of God as we see in Job chapters one and two? And there is Satan again in the Lord’s presence in Zechariah three.

Here we see there is misguided understanding and pure deception by the very enemy himself. Christians have been duped by the very ones who should be leading them into the truth to make them free.

When Jesus told the Syro-Phoenician woman, who was asking Him to cast a demon out of her daughter, He told her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” Who are the children and what is their bread? Deliverance—demons being cast out of them. (Mark 7:24-30)

Furthermore, when Jesus explained where demons go when they go out of people and what they do when they can’t find rest, it is obvious an unbeliever would be defenseless to a greater infestation because he or she (the demon’s house) is left with empty space and nothing to fill it such as the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. Jesus said this would cause an individual to end up seven times worse than before. (Matthew 12:43-45)

    Can a Christian have demons?

Apparently Jesus and the Apostle Paul think so.

Amen! In Mark 11:22, Jesus refers to "mountains" in our lives: "Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21 And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.” 22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them." All of us have mountains and strong holds in our lives. Whether it be some form of addition: drugs, food, alcoholism, pornography; or lying, stealing, gossiping, something that we cannot get on top of no matter how hard we pray, we know that something is wrong and become so frustrated and discouraged. We don't know where to turn. We have exhausted the "Church" who have no answers, except "crucify the flesh". Then in some folks, the light comes on to seek help to have the "mountain" removed and cast into the sea. The mountain is a "demonic" influence in our life. It is not on the outside, but inside and needs to be dealt with. There are quacks out there who do more harm than good in professing to do deliverance, and then there are those who truly seek the Holy Spirit and His direction and see the fruit of deliverance. May God bless your ministry are you continue to profess the truth and help the body of Christ.

Good Reading, I'm also reminded of the scripture where Jesus went into the temple, Matthew 21:12; And Jesus went into the temple of GOD, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers and the seats of them that sold doves, 13; And said unto them, It is written, My house ( who we are ) shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves (robbers). Just because it was the house of God, did it keep these things from taking place, NO!! Demons are like the thieves and robbers that come in and try to rob us of what Christ wants us to have (abundant life). We need to see it for what it is, stop wearing out our repenter and with the power of the Holy Ghost,in the Name of Jesus Christ, use the scourge (deliverance) and drive them out of the house and off our land. What ever it takes let's be free indeed. PTL

This is so true, but I'm beginning to discover that it is more so a combination of factors, i.e. lack of knowledge, fear, lazy to read the Bible i.e. they just wait to hear about the Word on Sunday from the Preacher, lack of understanding that people shun away from deliverance and think that a Christian cannot have a demon because of the gift of salvation. A lot of believers fail to realize that not all Israelites that were saved from Egypt entered the promised land. Our salvation does not scare satan and his demons one bit and many people do not know this. Fear and lack of knowledge are the main factors we have run into when we minister to believers and it is usually because demons are never mentioned by their Pastors and they are taught that GOD is love, he fights our battles, the blood of Yashua covers everything which is true but there is the other side of the coin. GOD saved the Israelites from Egypt but the Israelites had to fight the giants and squatters, how then would GOD expect anything different from us. It's only when we show them these passages that you have brought forth in your writings do they start entertaining the possibility of squatters in their land. Deliverance is the key and I believe without a doubt that is imperative for newly saved believer to seek deliverance but this is not being taught in the pulpits.

God has those people in the pulpits Barbar, to try our own hearts - whether our hearts of a truth are into murmuring and complaining - these people of Israel did not make it to the promised land either, He let their bodies die in the wilderness. Fear God in true Holiness rather than in deceit.
